Terms of service
[OPERATOR: legal review] This document is a working draft written for the Timechain product as built and designed. Have counsel review it, fill in the operating entity and governing law, and confirm each item marked for review before relying on it.
The short version
- Coins launch on pump.fun. You launch from your own Solana wallet and approve every transaction yourself. Timechain never holds your keys.
- Each coin is etched on Bitcoin as a Rune. Right after launch the coin's Rune is etched on Bitcoin, with its full supply sent to the coin's own Bitcoin address. Bitcoin assigns the Rune's name.
- Custody is a canister, not a company. That Bitcoin address is controlled by a program (a canister) on the Internet Computer whose key is split across the network's nodes. No person holds it, Timechain included, and there is no backup key.
- The bridge moves coins 1:1. Holders can move a coin between Solana and Bitcoin. The Bitcoin side opens in stages: etching first, then the bridge to Bitcoin, then back to Solana.
- The fee split is locked. 80% of each coin's creator fee goes to its holders and 20% goes to the platform (15% buys and burns $TIMECHAIN, 5% runs Timechain), locked at launch on pump.fun so nobody can change it.
- You pay the network costs of your own actions. A launch includes the Rune fee (the Bitcoin network fee to etch); a move to Bitcoin includes the Bitcoin network fee of your payout. Both are shown in SOL before you approve.
1. Acceptance
By using the Timechain website and app ("the Service") you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated Terms.
2. What the Service is
The Service lets you launch coins on pump.fun with a dev buy, list and trade them on a public board, see each coin's Rune on Bitcoin, check a coin's custody in your browser and, as it opens, move coins between Solana and Bitcoin. Coins are created permissionlessly by their launchers, not by Timechain; listing a coin is not an endorsement or a check of any kind. The Service is operated by [OPERATOR: legal entity name] ("we", "us"). Timechain is not run by or affiliated with pump.fun.
3. Eligibility
You may use the Service only if you are of legal age and permitted to do so where you live, and you are not subject to sanctions or located in a jurisdiction where using it is prohibited. You are responsible for checking that. [OPERATOR: legal review: restricted jurisdictions list]
4. Wallets and keys
- Your Solana wallet. You sign in and sign transactions with your own Solana wallet (Phantom, Solflare or any other Wallet Standard wallet). A wallet is the only account; there is no email or password sign-in. Your keys stay in your wallet.
- Your Bitcoin wallet. To receive a Rune on Bitcoin you give your own Taproot address (bc1p), for example from Xverse, UniSat or OKX. Sending to a wrong address, or to a wallet that does not support Runes, can lose the Rune for good. We cannot reverse it.
- No custody by Timechain servers. Timechain's servers do not store, log or receive the private key of your wallets, and never hold your coins, your Runes or your SOL.
- Platform wallets. Timechain's platform wallets (the wallet that receives the fee share and pays holders, and the wallet that pays Bitcoin network fees) are signed for by Privy, a third-party key provider. They never hold your funds beyond the fees described in section 7. [OPERATOR: legal review]
5. The Rune and its custody
- The etch. After a coin launches on pump.fun, the Service etches a Rune for it on Bitcoin with a fixed supply equal to the coin's supply, and a parent inscription carrying the coin's picture, details and Solana mint address. Bitcoin assigns a reserved name, so two coins can share a display name. The etch takes Bitcoin blocks to confirm, and if Bitcoin network fees rise above the quote the etch waits rather than overspend.
- The canister. The Rune's whole supply is held at the coin's own Bitcoin address, derived from the key of a canister on the Internet Computer. The key is split across the network's nodes by threshold signing; no person holds it and there is no backup key. The canister reads Solana and Bitcoin itself before it moves anything. Its code and controllers are public. [OPERATOR: legal review: canister controllers, upgrade timelock and pause guardian as deployed]
- What you rely on. Custody depends on the Internet Computer, its threshold signing, Bitcoin, Solana, the canister's code and the indexers it reads. A failure of any of them can delay or stop movements between the two chains.
- Invariant. The bridge keeps the Rune in custody equal to the tokens circulating on Solana plus the tokens burned on Solana. The bridge program on Solana can only lock and release tokens, never create them.
6. The bridge
- To Bitcoin. You lock tokens in the bridge program on Solana and name your Taproot address; the canister sends the same amount of the Rune to it. A SOL fee covering the Bitcoin network fee of your payout is shown before you approve.
- To Solana. You send the Rune to your own deposit address; after the required confirmations the same amount is released to your Solana wallet.
- Stages and limits. The bridge opens in stages and may carry per-coin daily limits. Movements can take many Bitcoin blocks and can be paused for safety. A paused bridge moves nothing; it does not take anything. [OPERATOR: legal review]
7. Fees
Each coin launched through the Service locks a pump.fun fee-sharing configuration at launch, with its admin revoked so nobody can change it, Timechain included. Of the coin's creator fee, 20% goes to the platform (15% buys and burns $TIMECHAIN and 5% runs Timechain), and 80% goes to the coin's holders, paid out in the coin's pair (WBTC by default, or SOL) weighted by tokens held and time held, with curves, pools and LP accounts excluded. The network fees of those payouts, and the cost of opening a holder's token account for the pair, are paid from the coin's own fees. [OPERATOR: legal review of holder payouts]
A launch costs pump.fun's coin creation, the Solana network fees and the Rune fee (the Bitcoin network fee to etch), all paid by the launcher and shown as one quote in SOL before you approve. Trading pays pump.fun's own fee. A move to Bitcoin pays a SOL fee covering the Bitcoin network fee of your payout. Network fees go to the networks, not to us.
8. Launches and trades
- Transactions are irreversible once confirmed. You are responsible for every parameter you approve in your wallet.
- A launch has more than one step: the launch, then the locked fee split. Until the split lands the coin is live but its split is not finished; the Service keeps reminding you until it is.
- The buy and burn of $TIMECHAIN and the holder payouts run automatically. They can be late or smaller than expected. Burns, payouts and prices are not guaranteed, and holding $TIMECHAIN or any coin is not a promise of profit.
- Holder lists, balances, prices and Rune data come from third parties and the chains and can be incomplete or wrong.
9. Availability and data
The Service depends on hosting, Solana and Bitcoin RPC and indexer providers, pump.fun, the Internet Computer, Privy and other third parties, any of which can be slow or unavailable. Data shown may be cached, delayed or wrong; check anything that matters on chain. If something looks wrong, email [OPERATOR: contact email]. A report does not create a right to compensation.
10. Acceptable use
Use the Service lawfully and only with wallets and coins you control. Do not use it to defraud or mislead anyone, to get around rate limits or access controls, or to attack the Service, the canister or other users. We may restrict or end access for anyone who breaks these Terms.
11. Your responsibility
You are responsible for whether your use is lawful where you are, including tax, securities and money-transmission rules, and for any tax on launches, trades, bridging and fees.
12. Liability and warranties
The Service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of funds, including losses from sending to a wrong address, delays or failures of Bitcoin, Solana, the Internet Computer or third-party programs, outages, bugs or wrong data. Our total liability is limited to USD 10. You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your use of the Service or your breach of these Terms. [OPERATOR: legal review]
13. Third parties
The Service uses or links to pump.fun, the Internet Computer, Solana and Bitcoin RPC providers, Runes indexers, ordinals.com, mempool.space, Solscan, wallet providers (including Xverse, UniSat and OKX) and Privy. Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them.
14. Intellectual property
The Timechain name, design and code belong to [OPERATOR: legal entity name]. Coin names, symbols and images belong to their creators.
15. Governing law
